New book!

I've just published my latest book 'On Calder Hill', available to download now. There'll be a free 5-day promotion running from tomorrow (Tues 5th March), so bear that in mind!

'On Calder Hill' is part historical thriller, part ghost story, aimed at Young Adults, but with plenty in it for the rest of us (although I would say that, wouldn't I?)

Here's the blurb from the site:

***

How far would you go to right a wrong?

For Holly, it was a thousand years.

Exams are the least of Holly’s problems. Her mum has come up with yet another get rich quick scheme – the opening of a cafĂ© in the local park – and Holly has been roped in to help. But as she sits daydreaming at the counter one morning, a mysterious young girl comes to visit. When she disappears after leaving an ancient silver penny as payment, something is begun that will challenge everything Holly thinks she knows – not just about her past, but about the fabric of time itself.

***

I look forward to hearing your comments, good or bad - and of course, any online reviews are always welcome.

SK

PS:  I promise this'll be the last book for at least a year! I've just been finishing some projects... :)

Right,I will download this tomorrow Spence and leave a review as always.

Should finish David Niven's autobiography tonight,so I'll crack on with it tomorrow.

If I finish it in a week and post a really good 5* review, does that mean I only have to pay half the ransom to get my family back?Honestly,Sebastian Faulks only asks for a pint for a decent review, you really do over stretch these things Spence.....

Spence, Is it available in epub (Nook)?

Thanks very much Jacks.

Funnily enough, I've always thought our terrier Buzz looked a lot like David Niven. Does he mention any strange dog dreams in the memoir? Anyway - cover up the suit, draw on some floppy ears - that's Buzz, right there.

I think I already owe you far more than the ransom, Jacks, so we'll call it quits and I'll give them a lift home tonight via the chippie.

Hi Wayne

I'm not sure it is available on nook. Sorry! But what you could do is get the Kindle app for your phone or PC and read it on that. If that's no good, let me know and I'll send you a .pdf (is that readable on a nook book?) We'll work something out...

Spence, The Nook does do PDF, but first I'm going to try to convert it to epub. I'll let you know how it goes.

If you need a word .doc, let me know...

could not put it down. were you inspired by Old Sarum outside Salisbury? The screenplay will be in the post I'm sure.

Thanks so much, Anon! Very much appreciated.

I must admit I've never been to Old Sarum (note to self: look it up online / book a mini-break...) The setting was based on two places, really - Mount Caburn in Lewes for the hill fort and Cuckfield in West Sussex for the village (I know the recreation ground and woods beyond, and it was originally an Anglo-Saxon settlement).

Screenplay, eh? Now you've got me daydreaming... :)

Just curious, but as an Amazon Prime member, I can "borrow" this book for free on my Kindle e-reader (the one I don't actually own, because I already own a nook and an iPad, and yet do most of my reading on my iPhone because it's what I carry. Anyway, back to the point:), if I borrow it for free from Amazon prime, do you actually get paid anything for that?

Hi Andy,

First of all, thanks for signing up to the Amazon Prime scheme - and for considering borrowing On Calder Hill. I hope you like it!

I do get a payment every time someone borrows the book, but I don't know how much! It's seems to be a complicated transaction, based on what percentage of the overall scheme borrowing your title accounted for, expressed as a percentage of the available pot.

To be honest, it's not the money I'm so interested in as the exposure. Enrolling in the KDP Select scheme looked like a good way to extend my readership. The royalties are very much a secondary concern (which is probably just as well, reading the reports!)
